JOHAN THURFJELL
Johan Thurfjell, born 1970, Konstfack Stockholm 1997-2002 // Otis college of art & design Los Angeles. Represented by Galerie Nordenhake, Stockholm, Sweden.
About
Johan Thurfjell is known for his lyrical and suggestive works that, in their reduced form, convey a strong narrative content, evoking sagas and fables, fears and fantasies. Regardless of his choice of material or technique Thurfjell´s sculptures, paintings, video works and installations show a dexterity and pleasure in his craftsmanship.
I am interested in stories, metaphors and myths – how we use them to process and describe our lives and relationships. I am interested in our capacity and willingness to believe – how inherited stories, traditions and mythologies can open doors to a richer understanding of life itself. I am interested in memory – how two people can remember the same event in completely different ways, and how memory itself can create its own stories. In my artistic practice I try to shape stories and moods with images and objects. Like metaphors.
